Transcriber’s and Editor’s Notes

·        Gained the Freedom of the City of London as Citizen and Clothworker by the patrimony of his father Thomas Reynolds.

·        There were six children by his first marriage to Elizabeth: Mary (1759-1807), Elizabeth (1760-1787), Thomas (1761-1819), Susannah (1765-1807), Ann (1766-1839) and William Foster (1767-1838), there were two children by his second marriage to Deborah: Jacob Foster (1775-1851) & Deborah (1776-1874).

·        The will appears to provide and equitable distribution between his children from both marriages and provisions for wife Deborah Reynolds limited to during her life.

·        The references to Trusts in the hands of Ackworth School and the London Meeting would suggest that previous arrangements included loans or stock given to each of them providing a small interest in return.

·        A Tumbling Bay can be a fixed crest weir possibly intended to create a mill pond resource and could include sluice gates to release water when necessary.
